Chris Meade gives Decoy: Menagerie #2 a perfect 10 out of 10

From what I hear This anthology has been awhile in the making and from what I read and saw it was well worth the wait. With stories coming from all walks of the comic creator industry we have an interesting and varied chance to look in on a very unique character, a shapeshifting alien from Nacrum, Decoy and his exploits with his human partner, Police officer Danny Luck.

I missed the first volume of Decoy and getting this second volume I was worried I would be at a lose of who the characters were and where they came from but the introduction story takes you straight into the details I was worried I missed. From there you get a total of ten short stories (and a pin-up section with a bonus story...over 150 pages total) from creators like Brian Wood, J. Torres, Mike Kunkel, B Clay Moore, Decoy creator Courtney Huddleston and many more!

The fun part of anthologies like this are the many different ways the artists and writers interpret the characters and add to thier history. Some of the highlights are the clever ways Decoy is 'used'. Brian Wood makes use of Decoy like I've never seen anyone use a morphing or shape changing character, in his story 'Magic Bullets'. Mike Kunkel had Decoy morph into one of those car air freshners you hang from your mirror in 'Good Intentions, or in other stories Decoy is a suit of armor, a dragon, even morphing into his symbiotic friend Danny Luck. But beyond the clever uses of a morphing character, the art is all top notch and the colors in stories like "Decoy Versus The Invisible Man" are fantastic and fit Mr Torres story of a disgruntled office worker perfectly.

Like any good story its not all about one character, and Danny Luck is often the real 'star' of the show. We get equal chances to look into the brains and lives of Decoy and Danny. In "Mind Games" we delve in the mind of Danny after he is forced to lethally deal with a thief, in "Giving Thanks" we learn more of Decoy's gruesome past and his touching realization about his mother.

Overall this has to be one of the best books I have seen recently, its perfect for the children but still accessible to the jaded comic fan. The hardcover is atractive and should grab the eye at book stores and comic shops alike. My only complaint would be the price, I think 15 bucks would be a great price but at 20 it might miss a few people who would really enjoy it, still it deserves a full 10.
