The jury for the tenth annual Spectrum competition convened in Kansas City, Missouri, on the weekend of February 21, 2003 to make their selections from over 3500 works of fantastic-themed art for the 2003 Spectrum 10 publication. Each year, the jury gives special recognition for superior achievement to artists in seven categories. Penny-Farthing Press-commissioned artists, Neal Adams and Joe Chiodo are among those artists recognized for artistic excellence in 2003.
“We’re very excited to see artists honored in such a manner,” Penny-Farthing Press Publisher Ken White said. “Our artists work very hard to produce the right look for our books, and they deserve as many kudos as they can get for their efforts.”
Neal Adams’ The Victorian, Issue 14 cover and Joe Chiodo’s Decoy, Issues 2.1 and 2.3 covers will be featured as Honorable Mention works in the comics section of Spectrum 10. Penny-Farthing Press commissioned all three pieces in late 2001 for Summer and Fall 2002 releases, and continues to work with artists that are Spectrum worthy.
“We like to work with the most talented artists in the industry,” White explained. “Creative and talented people bring a certain degree of excitement to projects and make our jobs a lot of fun.”
Penny-Farthing Press has also been featured in Spectrum 7 and Spectrum 9.
